The immune system is a network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to defend the body against bacteria, parasites, and fungi, that can cause infections and diseases. If the immune system works properly, it recognizes the invaders and produces secretions and cells, in order to eliminate them and protect the body. Sometimes, the immune system overreacts or fights the wrong target, culminating in allergies or autoimmune diseases. A healthy immune system is the best protection against diseases.
